Carros village

Located in the Var valley, between the mountains and the sea, Carros is now a living testimony of more than 2000 years of history throughout a large amount of outstanding historical sites.
Dominating the skyline of Carros, the château of « Castrum Carossi » has been the seat of the Blacas family since the 17th century.
Thanks to records dating from the 17th century the recent history of the château is relatively clear. For example, we know of the ransacking by the Duke of Savoy in 1704 and its liberation by Louis IV later that year.
On the right bank of the Var river, Carros has always belonged to the ancient kingdom of Provence unlike other nearby villages . Carros has never been integrated to the County of Nice.

A little bit of history

In 1860, Carros became part of the newly created department of Alpes-Maritimes. Throughout the rest of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th it became home to many immigrants due to a new agricultural system being developed in Italy.
In 1968 a new industrial zone was created on the right bank of the river Var. As a result, a whole new way of life is born during the 1970s.
From then on, the population of Carros grew to over 10 000 inhabitants, concentrated in three different areas :

  1. The historic center, built around the château,
  2. Carros les Plans, the old agricultural area, which has become rezidential,
  3. The town of Carros.
